A new firmware upgrade for Inmarsat’s IsatPhone 2 mobile satellite phone has been released and is available to download from the Support section of the website
 
Firmware version 01.12.00 supersedes version 01.08.01 that was released in October 2015. This is a recommended firmware upgrade – the features introduced are important but not critical for the GSPS service, network and handset.

Firmware Upgrade Tool

From time to time, it may be necessary to upgrade your phone in order to improve its functionality and operation. You will be notified by Inmarsat and/or your Service Provider when a firmware upgrade is required.

Please note that you need to install the USB drivers before installing the Firmware Upgrade Tool. The USB drivers and the guide ‘How to install USB drivers’ are included on the support USB stick supplied with your IsatPhone 2.

USB drivers

You will need to install the USB drivers on your PC before installing the contact synchronisation and firmware upgrade tools. Installing the USB drivers also reduces your phone’s charging time.

The guide ‘How to install USB drivers’ is included on the support USB stick supplied with your IsatPhone 2.

Please find attached the full technical notification from Inmarsat, which includes:

  • Full software update/installation instructions
  • A full explanation of all new and updated features, including:
    • Occasional crash events when camping on narrow spot beam
    • Handset not moving from "Acquiring network" wallpaper on reception of SMS messages with stowed antenna
    • Resolution of occasional misuse of GPS Red Icon
    • Disadvantage mode icon showed in searching screen
    • Assistance alert test - No GPS Info
    • Assistance alert not sent and assistance icon not removed
    • Improved assistance alert loudspeaker performance
    • Network information, time and battery indications not displayed uniformly during e-Compass calibration screen

This is a recommended firmware upgrade, meaning that the features introduced by the firmware are important but not critical for the GSPS service including the network and the IsatPhone 2 handset.

Fixes and enhancements in this release Important enhancements:

 

 Introduction of a new air interface encryption scheme to improve the security of communications between the IsatPhone 2 and the GSPS ground network

 

Various enhancements to the MMI Important fixes:

 

 Resolution of a bug that could cause the battery to discharge when the power button is pressed for a very short period of time while the IsatPhone 2 is powered down.

 Removes the requirement for a manual work around in situations where a brand new or never before used IsatPhone 2 handset fails to register with the network.

 Resolution of some rare cases of MMI inconsistencies in call and message alerting when the antenna is stowed

 Resolution of rare bugs which could cause the IsatPhone 2 to continually restart, hang, or require a reboot during satellite search, while dialling, or during calls..

 Resolution of bugs that could occur if and when new GSPS gateways are introduced into the network
